On 1st April Rutland celebrates its 20th Anniversary of independence and there is lots going on in the county to commemorate 20 years of Rutland. We thought we'd share with you 'What's On' should you want to join in on the celebrations around the the area.

A Visit to: Rutland Cookery School, Oakham

Last week I visited Rutland Cookery School ran by Chef, Robin Stewart. Located in Oakham Enterprise Park the school is position on the left as you enter OEP Gate 2. Small from the outside Rutland Cookery School is a spacious and relaxed place to learn with Chef Robin offering a range of courses and cooking lesson to suit whatever kind of cookery skill you'd like to gain experience in.

Local friends to Run 6 Marathons in Sahara Desert in 6 Days

Local friends, Bruce Donald (44) and Tom Dove (27) are taking part in one of the worlds toughest challenges on 7th April in Sahara Desert called Marathon Des Sables.

But Marathon Des Sables isn't just any marathon, it's actually more than 156 miles, has 6 stages over 7 days. A long stage 52+ miles too. Runners with have to be self-sufficient but with water rations and will see temperatures of 50+ degrees centigrade.

When Tom (27) told me he was taking part in this event all I heard was 'a marathon in the Sahara Desert' which baffled me. When he corrected me and said it was in fact 6 marathons in the Sahara Desert, I jokingly questioned his sanity.

After hearing all about Bruce and Tom's preparation for this mammoth event next month, I said 'I have to write a blog post about this, what an amazing things you're doing'.

As honestly, I literally cannot believe their bravery.

I asked Bruce and Tom a number of questions about the event itself, why they're doing it and where you can donate to raise money for their 2 chosen charities, as well as support and sponsor them in completing their challenge.

Friends, Bruce & Tom are taking part in the 6 marathon challenge called Marathon Des Sables on 7th April 2017.

Rumour has it coffee chain Costa is coming to Uppingham High Street this year.
However the majority of the locals aren't exactly ecstatic about its arrival to the mostly independent high street that Uppingham currently has.

A Day in the Life of a Rutland Dog Walker: Boo's Walking School

Earlier this week my 1 year old Pug, Arla and I were lucky enough to be invited to spend the day with Rutland based Dog Walker, Chloe Fowler of Boo's Walking School for our new 'Day in the life of a Rutlander' series.

Boo's Walking School is based in Uppingham but covers all surrounding areas of Rutland.

Chloe is a passionate animal lover who really loves her job.

Name an Ale for Rutland's 20th Anniversary with Grainstore Brewery

With the 20th anniversary of Rutland's independence close approaching, Grainstore Brewery are giving you the chance to name an anniversary ale for Rutland's second decade of independence.

Our county was part of Leicestershire from 1974 to 1997, but was proudly given independence and celebrated 10 years of being an independent county in 2007.

So, with the anniversary to celebrate 20 years on 1st April close by, Grainstore Brewery in Oakham are hoping you can get your creative caps on an think of the best name for the new ale celebrating Rutland's 20th year of independence.

A Visit to: The Rutland Cake Company, Oakham

On Monday I was lucky enough to be invited by Rural Roots PR to the opening of The Rutland Cake Company on Ashwell Road at Oakham Enterprise Park.

With a full cafe of supporters, milkshakes and lots of cake-apés such as giant ice gems, brownies, sponges and more!

Changes to Uppingham Parking on Gainsborogh Road & Seaton Road

On Thursday (2nd March 2017) contractors are set to begin work on two of the main non-pay and display parking spots in Uppingham, on Gainsborough Road by Tod's Piece and Seaton Road near the cricket field.

Uppingham Town Council posted the statement yesterday on their website following a request from Rutland County Council to make those who park their regularly aware of the changes.
