The summer holidays are here and other than you actual summer holiday abroad, sometime it can be difficult to plan things to do with the kids. So, I've put together a Summer Holiday Guide for parents in and around Rutland which gives an easy to follow list of places to go with the family!

About: Rutland Farm Park is a family owned farm park in Rutland and reopened in 2017 following a 16 year closure. The park has many animals such as sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, alpacas, llamas etc. The park also has a Tea Room (which you can visit without paying the park admission) serving coffee, lunch and afternoon tea as well as milkshakes and ice creams too!

Open on Bank Holidays too.

About: Family owned small zoo which is fun for the whole family! The zoo has many animals such as meerkats, armadillos, racoon dog, black throated monitor, asian palm civet, frilled dragon and much more!

Rutland Falconry & Owl Centre

About: The centre is home to international birds of prey such as owls, hawks, buzzards, falcons, eagles and vultures and is a great day out for all!

Forestry Commission Visitor Centre, Fineshade, Corby NN17 3BB
About: Fineshade woods is an ancient woodlands with walks, cycle trails, horse trail, caravan site and a café. The centre also host events like Baby Bushcrafts, Go Wild: Find Water & Autumn Forage, Adult Bushcraft, Navigation & Shelter and much more! The centre is kept as environmentally friendly as possible with solar panels, rainwater harvesting and reedbed sewerage system.

Oakham Castle
Castle Grounds, Market Place, Oakham, LE15 6DR
The great hall of Oakham Castle is the finest surviving example of Norman Domestic Architecture in Europe. It was built between 1180 and 1190. Oakham Castle host many events throughout the year for adults and children and you can find the full list here.

Aqua Park Rutland

About: The UK's biggest inflatable water park located on Rutland Water and is a fun filled wet and wild activity for you, your friend and your family to enjoy! The park has amazing reviews but due to being an outdoor activity there is age restrictions which you can find more info about here.

Rutland Water Nature Reserve

Egleton, Oakham, LE15 8BT
About: The internationally famous nature reserve is managed by Leics & Rutland Wildlife Trust in partnership with Anglian Water and provides one of the most important wildfowl sancturaries in Great Britain with in excess of 25,000 wildfowl. There are over 1000 acres, more than 30 bird watching hides and nature trails too. The nature reserve holds many events for people of all ages, you can find the full list here.

About: A popular child friendly destination for years! Since 1964, the 50 acres site was aimed to provide agricultural education from school children to heritage enthusiasts.
