Summer is here and the sun is shining in Rutland. It's a busy month in our county with many family friendly events happening all over, so get your diary out and make a note of all these amazing events.

There's village fetes, open mic nights, antique valuations, charity nights and even a pirate party!

Recent Discoveries at Oakham Castle
Friday 27th July

About: Dig Director Mathew Morris from ULAS, will give a talk on the recent community archaeological dig in the grounds of Oakham Castle. The team re-opened trenches started by Time Team in 2012 and have expanded our knowledge of the site and discovered structures previously unknown. Admission includes a copy of the Rutland Record.


Peaky Blinders Takeover
Friday 27th July

About: A truly spectacular occasion. It's the early 1900s ,Tommy and the gang have planned a pre race day trip to little old Rutland for a hideout in their favourite boozer "The Garrison". The elicit gang have asked to keep this under wraps so their favourite pastimes of copious amounts of Gin, Whisky and Rum can be consumed without the hassle of inspector Campbell. We've even heard from our sources the blackjack and roulette wheel will be out for a dabble. One things for certain to avoid any high suspicion we all must dress accordingly, our top distraction is going to be the noise and dancing created by our swing band! 1900s dress is compulsory! Includes gambling currency(prizes will be available for who ever makes the most on the night). Bar will be stocked with Sadlers Brewery Black IPA, Craft Lager and Pale Ale. Plus Peaky Blinders Gin, Rum and Whisky! Eyebrook Walk
Sunday 29th July
At: Eyebrook Resevoir

About: The Eyebrook Walk is a sponsored charity walk round the beautiful Eyebrook Reservoir on the border of Leicestershire and Rutland in aid of LOROS and other charities sponsored by the Rotary Club of Rutland. The walk will start between 1000 and 1200 and should complete by 1430. The walk will start from the layby alongside the reservoir below Stoke Dry (post code LE15 9JG) - there is adequate parking in the layby and along the roadside in the immediate vicinity. The walk will proceed in a clockwise direction round the reservoir through the SSSI nature reserve of the Eyebrook Fishery estate before emerging after about 2 and a half miles onto the quiet local roads to complete the 4.6 mile circuit. Very many thanks to Ifor Jones and Eyebrook Trout Fishery. This is probably the only day this year that the Eyebrook estate will be open to for public access.

Nature Detectives

About: A week of activity days for the kids. Each day has a different theme including birds, bugs, bushcraft. Book for the whole week (£100) or per day (£30). For those staying the whole week, there’s a camp out on Thursday night with storytelling & chocolate!
