Info: Do you love words and have a good imagination? Then you would enjoy doing some creative writing in a supportive workshop environment. With an emphasis on sharing ideas and shaping them into texts, this course will help you think about ways to use language to bring your writing to life and create impact for your reader. A chance to experience a range of writing activities.

'What a Picture' Sketching & Photography Workshop
At: 10:30am on board The Rutland Belle, Rutland Water, Whitwell

Info: All aboard the Rutland Belle for a cruise on Rutland Water, Britain’s largest manmade reservoir. This unique site is a wildlife haven and we will have experts on hand to give advice on taking photographs, painting and sketching the stunning landscapes and the creatures who call it home. Tim Mackrill is “Mr Osprey” and he will be giving a talk on the successful nesting sites and where best to spot them. Awarding winning wildlife photographer, Nigel Spencer, is also coming along to give us hints and tips on how best to photograph wildlife and moving landscapes. And for budding artists we are joined by Andrew Geeson, who has painted the landscapes and Ospreys at Rutland over his period there as artist-in-residence, who will give us a demonstration of his signature loose watercolour style and give tips about drawing and sketching birds.
The Rutland Belle will be departing from Whitwell Northshore at 11am prompt so please make sure you arrive for 10.30am to register. An email will go out to everyone attending the week before to confirm where registration will take place (as this will be dependant on numbers). Refreshments will be served on the Rutland Belle and are included in the price.
Please don’t worry if you don’t want to learn to draw or take photos, you can just come along for the ride and the usual informal, friendly networking. Though why not pick up a pencil – you may discover your inner-Picasso!

Monday 29th May

Quarry Railway Day & Take a Trip on the Rutlander Train

At: 10:30am at Rocks by Rail, Ashwell Road, Cottesmore

Price: Adult £8, Senior Citizen £7, Child (3-14) £5

Info: This is your chance to see the action of an authentic ironstone quarry recreated by museum volunteers and our fleet of locomotives. Quarry machines will be in operation simulating the loading of waggons. The waggons will be shunted to form a train, and then the 'full' waggons will be exchanged for a new train of 'empties'. And of course, there will be the ever-popular 'runs up the bank' with trains of hopper or tippler waggons being hauled up the 1/60 gradient - see our locos working at their hardest and best! 

Also in operation will be The Rutlander Train, providing passenger brake van rides - Pay once and ride all day! 
Visitors can also view our fleet of historic ironstone locomotives in the recently opened Simon Layfield Exhibition Centre which now houses the greater part of the museum's collection. The Woolsthorpe Workshop is also open for visitors to see the progress of ongoing locomotive restoration. 
The Sundew Cafe will be open to provide visitors with hot and cold beverages and snacks.
